Akwa Ibom Governor Empowers 540 Constituents with ₦250 Million Support Package

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has empowered over 540 residents of the Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency with a ₦250 million intervention fund, targeted at boosting small businesses, agriculture, and trade through grants and equipment support.

The announcement was made during a Town-Square Meeting held on Thursday, where Governor Eno thanked the people of Ikot Abasi, Mkpat Enin, and Eastern Obolo LGAs for their unwavering support during his election and the first two years of his administration.

“We are not just here to say thank you with words. We’re backing it with action—through infrastructure, empowerment, and development,” Eno told the cheering crowd.

He highlighted several projects executed across the constituency, including the construction of rural roads, a dual carriageway linking Mkpat Enin to Eastern Obolo’s secretariat, as well as improvements in healthcare, water supply, and schools.

The governor emphasized that the empowerment grants were non-political and open to all Akwa Ibomites, regardless of party affiliation.

“This support is for the child of the common man—no godfather, no godmother needed. If you applied and qualified, you got it. It’s about our collective right as citizens,” he explained.

He further noted that the state had received the constituency’s Needs Assessment Document, a tool to help shape the 2026 state budget in line with grassroots priorities.

“We want citizens to be part of budget planning. That’s what this document represents—people’s voices reflected in governance,” Eno said.

In his closing remarks, Governor Eno called for unity across party lines, expressing optimism for a stronger collaboration between himself, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

“Let’s believe in this government and work together under the ARISE Agenda. United we stand; divided we fall. By 2027, we hope to see continuity at all levels.”

Earlier in the event, Enobong Uwah, Secretary to the State Government, said the meeting was part of the administration’s commitment to listening to constituents and ensuring the people have a say in governance.

Also speaking, Uwem Okoko, a political leader in Ikot Abasi and MD of Hensek Integrated Services, expressed gratitude to Governor Eno for personally receiving the needs document. He emphasized the community’s call for a power substation, recalling the era of uninterrupted power supply during the Aluminium Smelter Company’s heyday.

The event concluded with the presentation of cheques to beneficiaries, marking a significant milestone in the state’s ongoing efforts to support economic growth and local enterprise.
