Ahmed Musa Condemns Deadly Attacks in Benue

Nigerian football star Ahmed Musa has voiced strong condemnation over the recent violent attacks in Benue State that claimed the lives of numerous civilians.

The 32-year-old Super Eagles veteran, who recently returned to play for Kano Pillars in the current Nigeria Premier Football League season, shared an emotional and firm statement on his social media accounts decrying the tragic events.

“Another heartbreaking massacre in Benue. How many more people must die before serious steps are taken? We can’t keep offering empty condemnations. Don’t wait until the violence affects someone close to you—take a stand now,” he wrote.

Musa urged political leaders to prioritize consistent governance over election-time appearances, emphasizing that Nigerians deserve better. “Benue needs peace. Nigeria deserves better,” he added, extending his condolences to the families affected by the killings.

The attacks, allegedly carried out by suspected herdsmen in Guma Local Government Area, reportedly spanned two days. Local authorities suggest the death toll could exceed 100, with entire families slain and some victims burned alive.

President Bola Tinubu responded to the tragedy by ordering an immediate crackdown. He promised that those responsible would be apprehended and prosecuted, and urged Governor Hyacinth Alia to lead peace and reconciliation efforts in the state.

Meanwhile, Pope Leo XVI joined global voices mourning the incident, offering prayers for the victims during the Sunday Angelus in Vatican City.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar labeled the crisis a national emergency and called for swift, transparent investigations and increased security in the region.

Public outrage continues to grow, with many Nigerians taking to social media to demand that a state of emergency be declared in Benue.
