Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu has named a 24-player squad for the 13th Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with captain Rasheedat Ajibade, star goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, and prolific forwards Asisat Oshoala and Francisca Ordega among the headline selections.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the team will be aiming to secure Nigeria’s 10th continental title at the tournament, scheduled to take place from July 5 to July 26 in Morocco.
The squad includes a blend of experienced internationals and exciting young talents. Training kicked off in Abuja on Thursday, with sessions scheduled to continue through Saturday before the team departs for its final training camp in Lisbon, Portugal, on Sunday.
Notable inclusions are Saudi Arabia-based defender Ashleigh Plumptre, U.S.-based fan favorite Michelle Alozie, veteran centre-back Osinachi Ohale, and midfield standouts Jennifer Echegini, Deborah Abiodun, and Christy Ucheibe.
Also making the squad are home-based goalkeeper Rachael Unachukwu, defenders Sikiratu Isah and Miracle Usani, and returning midfield stalwart Halimatu Ayinde.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has arranged high-profile warm-up matches against Portugal in Lisbon on Monday, June 24, and against Ghana’s Black Queens on Sunday, June 29, in Morocco. These fixtures are part of the team’s final preparations for Group B clashes against Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria.
