The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has officially announced that Wednesday, May 28, 2025, marks the first day of Zulhijja 1446 AH, signaling the start of one of the holiest months in the Islamic calendar.
This declaration follows verified reports of the new moon sighting across multiple locations in Nigeria, in accordance with Islamic tradition.
Zulhijja, the 12th month of the Islamic lunar calendar, holds deep spiritual significance for Muslims around the world. It is the month of Hajj, the sacred pilgrimage to Mecca, and Eid al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice. This year, Eid al-Adha will be observed on Friday, June 6, 2025.
In his address, the Sultan called on the Muslim Ummah to reflect deeply during this sacred period and to offer sincere prayers for peace, unity, and progress in Nigeria. He urged Muslims to uphold the values of obedience, sacrifice, and compassion, drawing inspiration from the life and legacy of Prophet Ibrahim (AS).
