The Nigerian Government has extended heartfelt condolences to the victims and families affected by the recent flood disaster that struck Mokwa in Niger State, resulting in the tragic loss of lives and widespread displacement.
The natural disaster, which submerged numerous homes and forced hundreds to flee, has drawn a strong response from the Federal Government, which has vowed to provide urgent support and relief to those impacted.
In a statement released by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government expressed deep sorrow over the incident and reaffirmed its commitment to helping affected communities recover.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has been briefed on the situation, has directed all relevant emergency and security agencies to intensify rescue and relief operations.
“Our immediate priority is to save lives and offer emergency support to those affected,” the statement noted.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), working in close coordination with the Nigerian Armed Forces and Niger State authorities, has been deployed to the scene and is actively leading response efforts.
The government also applauded the bravery and commitment of first responders, security agencies, and community volunteers who are putting themselves at risk to assist in rescue operations.
Citizens in the affected areas have been urged to cooperate with emergency personnel and comply with evacuation orders for their safety.
