Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has defended the recent trip to the United States by 10 northern governors, saying they sought lasting solutions to the insecurity ravaging the region. In an interview on Channels TV, Radda explained that the governors were invited by the United States Institute of Peace to share ideas and interact with global stakeholders on tackling security challenges.
Dikko Radda emphasized that the trip was not initiated by the governors but by the US Institute of Peace, which hosted the meeting to find solutions to the problems affecting the northern region. He stated that the governors sat for three days, cross-fertilizing ideas and engaging with experts to address the root causes of insecurity.
Despite criticisms, Dikko Radda maintained that the trip was necessary to explore new approaches to combating banditry, kidnapping, and other security issues plaguing the north. He attributed the rising insecurity to poverty and injustice, dismissing political motives as a driving factor.
The northern region has faced significant security challenges in recent years, with hundreds abducted and killed. The governors' trip to the US aimed to explore fresh perspectives and strategies to address these issues and ensure lasting peace and security in the region.
