Lagos State Government Clarifies Minimum Wage Rumors |
The Lagos State Government has issued a statement to correct the misinformation circulating about a purported increase in the minimum wage to N70,000. According to Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, the reports are inaccurate and do not reflect the actual situation.
The confusion arose from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's remarks during the unveiling of Eko Cares, a program aimed at supporting vulnerable citizens amidst economic challenges. The Governor was misquoted as announcing a new minimum wage of N70,000, which is not the case.
In reality, Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that civil servants have been receiving the N35,000 wage award directed by the Federal Government since January. He also mentioned that those who were previously earning between N35,000 and N40,000 now receive over N70,000 due to the wage allowance. The Governor expressed hope for a new minimum wage approval from the Federal Government and the state government in the near future.
The Lagos State Government urges citizens to disregard the misinformation and understand the correct context of the Governor's statement. The government remains committed to supporting its citizens and addressing economic challenges.
