Gas Explosion Rocks Lagos Community, Leaving 9 Injured, Including Pregnant Woman and Children

A devastating gas explosion occurred in the Ajegunle-Apapa area of Lagos on Tuesday, leaving nine individuals, including a pregnant woman, children, and adults, with varying degrees of burn injuries. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) responded promptly to the incident, which occurred at approximately 12:39 pm, and managed to bring the fire under control, preventing further destruction.

According to the LSFRS, the explosion was triggered by a suspected gas leakage, which ignited a high-tension cable and caused a fire outbreak. The incident occurred in an area known for its gas cylinder trading activities, amplifying the impact.

Despite the swift response, the explosion damaged four commercial tricycles, six lock-up shops, and a section of a residential bungalow. However, firefighters managed to salvage nearby structures, including a critical fuel service station, mitigating potential additional losses.

The nine injured individuals received immediate medical attention from the Lagos State Ambulance Service and are currently undergoing further treatment at the Ajeromi General Hospital and Gbagada Burnt & Trauma Centre.
