The 2024 biennial convention of the National Council for Women's Societies (NCWS) held in Abuja, themed "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress," brought together prominent stakeholders, including the First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, and the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye. They emphasized the need for new strategies and increased investments to promote women's advancement and contribute to the nation's development.
Representing the First Lady, Mrs. Chioma Hope-Uzodinma, highlighted the crucial role women play in driving societal progress and development. She urged collaboration among the private sector, civil society, and the federal government to support reforms aimed at investing in women.
Minister Kennedy-Ohaneye encouraged women to participate in government programs aimed at alleviating poverty and boosting their economic well-being. She introduced the new e-market portal, designed to break down market barriers and provide Nigerian women with better access to funding opportunities and empowerment initiatives.
During the convention, NCWS National President Mrs. Lami Adamu-Lau distributed empowerment kits and financial allowances to women across the 36 states, supporting and growing their businesses.
