The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has called on schools across Nigeria to upgrade their ICT facilities in preparation for the full transition to the computer-based WASSCE (CB-WASSCE) starting in 2026. Why Schools Must Upgrade ICT Centres
Speaking at a sensitisation programme in Port Harcourt, WAEC Zonal Coordinator Mr. Adeniran-Amusan Akim emphasized that schools must meet the new ICT requirements if they wish to host the 2026 CB-WASSCE within their premises.
WAEC has already designated alternative centres for institutions that may struggle to meet the required standards, but schools are strongly encouraged to upgrade.

WAEC’s ICT Requirements for Schools

- At least 250 functional laptops with 10% backups
- A robust server to support 250 devices simultaneously
- LAN connectivity for seamless communication
- CCTV cameras for monitoring and security
- Adequate lighting, air conditioning, and seating arrangements
- Uninterrupted power supply with UPS backup
- A minimum 40kVA generator for standby power
These facilities will ensure smooth exam delivery and compliance with WAEC’s ICT standards.
Funding Opportunities for Schools
The Chairman of NAPPS in Rivers State, Mr. Sunday Jaja, encouraged school owners to explore funding opportunities to meet these requirements.
