The member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, has reacted to his expulsion from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), describing the decision as a “rude shock” but affirming that he will accept it in good faith.
The NNPP, through its Kano State Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, had announced Jibrin’s suspension and subsequent expulsion over alleged anti-party activities and failure to meet financial obligations. The party also hinted at taking legal action to recover what it described as his outstanding dues.
Jibrin’s Response to His Expulsion
In a statement personally signed by him on Saturday, Abdulmumin Jibrin said the decision caught him by surprise. According to him, the views he expressed in recent interviews, both in English and Hausa, were in line with the principles of democracy and freedom of expression which NNPP itself upholds.
“It came as a surprise and a rude shock, my sudden expulsion from the NNPP. I strongly believe the contents of the interview I granted a few days ago should not warrant such a heavy penalty,” he said.
Jibrin lamented that no invitation was extended to him by any organ of the party to defend himself, insisting that due process and fair hearing were completely ignored.
On Party Dues and Court Threats
Addressing the issue of financial obligations, Jibrin dismissed claims that he refused to pay his dues. He urged the party to send him a formal invoice so that he could promptly settle any outstanding payments.
“I respectfully request the party to send me the invoice and I will promptly pay. There is no need for a legal tussle,” he added.
Acceptance and Next Political Move
Despite his disappointment, Jibrin stressed that he would respect the decision of the NNPP and leave without grudges. He thanked the party leadership and members for their support during his stay, while calling on his supporters to prepare for the unveiling of his next political direction.
“I will carefully weigh all the options before me as I decide on my next political home. So help me God,” Jibrin concluded.
He also urged his followers who wish to remain in NNPP to do so peacefully, emphasizing that his personal relationships with members across the local, state, and national levels would remain cordial regardless of party affiliation.
