The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has formally apologized to students and the general public following the discovery of a technical error in the recently released WASSCE 2025 results for School Candidates.
In an official statement released on Thursday, August 7, from its Lagos headquarters in Yaba, WAEC’s Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, acknowledged the issue and confirmed that the council is working swiftly to correct it.
What Went Wrong with the WASSCE 2025 Results?
WAEC explained that the error originated from a new anti-malpractice technology known as paper serialisation, introduced to enhance examination integrity. This innovation, already in use by another national exam body, was implemented in key subjects including:

However, following an internal post-release audit, WAEC discovered unexpected bugs in the result-processing system, leading to inaccurate scores for some candidates.
