NUC Approves Nursing, Medical Laboratory Science, and Other Programmes for Northwest University Kano |
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has officially approved the establishment of ten new full-time academic programmes at Northwest University Kano, with effect from the 2025/2026 academic session.
In a statement signed by Abubakar Ibrahim, Head of the Public Relations Unit on behalf of the Registrar, the university confirmed that the newly accredited programmes include:
- B.Sc. Nursing Science
- Doctor of Physiotherapy (D.PT.)
- Bachelor of Radiography (B.Rad.)
- B.Sc. Pharmacology
- B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Science (B.MLS)
- B.Sc. Human Nutrition and Dietetics
- B.Sc. Public Administration
- Masters and Postgraduate Diploma in Information Management
- Master of Library and Information Science (M.LIS)
- Postgraduate Diploma, M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Biochemistry
According to the university, this approval represents “another major milestone in the institution’s academic growth, expanding its academic portfolio to meet the growing demand for highly skilled professionals in health sciences, administration, and research.”
Reacting to the development, the Deputy Governor of Kano State and Commissioner for Higher Education, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, congratulated the management, staff, and students of Northwest University Kano. He praised the Vice Chancellor, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, for his “tireless commitment to transforming Northwest University Kano into a hub of academic excellence and innovation.”
The statement further highlighted that the addition of these new courses will broaden access to quality higher education in Kano State and contribute significantly to Nigeria’s human capital development, particularly in the health and science sectors.
