Nigeria Police Extends Tinted-Glass Permit Enforcement to October 2, 2025 |
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced a new date for the nationwide enforcement of the tinted-glass permit requirement, giving vehicle owners more time to obtain the necessary documentation.
Initially scheduled to commence today, the crackdown will now officially begin on October 2, 2025, according to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
Why the Extension Was Granted
The extension, approved by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, follows a significant surge in permit applications via the official portal — https://possap.gov.ng. This heightened public compliance prompted the Police to allow more time for proper application processing and verification.
“We have noticed a substantial increase in public compliance. Extending the date ensures we carefully review all applications and issue permits only to eligible and qualified individuals,” Adejobi stated.
The Force emphasized that the verification process, both digital and physical, is being fine-tuned to maintain the integrity of the tinted-glass permit system and prevent misuse that could jeopardize national security.
FCT Clampdown on Tinted Vehicles
The update comes shortly after the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command began clamping down on vehicles with tinted glass, a move aimed at curbing the alarming rise of “one-chance” robberies in Abuja.
The Police explained that without proper registration, tinted-glass vehicles could be used to facilitate crimes, making permit regulation a key national security measure.
Official Application Process for Tinted-Glass Permits
The NPF reiterated that the only recognized platform for permit registration is the Police Specialized Services Automation Project (POSSAP) portal: https://possap.gov.ng.
Vehicle owners can apply online and will undergo both digital and physical verification to ensure compliance with national security protocols.

Balancing Public Convenience and Security
While extending the enforcement deadline, the NPF reassured Nigerians that the aim is to strike a balance between convenience and robust security measures.
“The Nigeria Police Force appreciates the cooperation of the Nigerian people and remains committed to ensuring safety while making the process as seamless as possible,” Adejobi concluded.
