NDLEA Raids Drug Dens in Kano, Arrests 49 Suspects in Nationwide Anti-Narcotics Drive

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its war against drug abuse and trafficking with the arrest of 49 suspects in Kano State for various drug-related offences. The arrests were made during coordinated raids between August 7 and August 8, 2025, targeting known drug hotspots and dismantling illegal narcotics networks.

According to a statement issued by the NDLEA Kano Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, the operation was aimed at curbing the growing drug menace in the state and across Nigeria.

“On August 7 and August 8, our operatives dislodged several key locations notorious for drug activities, arresting 34 suspects in areas such as Massallacin Idi, Fagge Plaza, Kofar Mata, Kofar Wambai, Kofar Dan’agundi, Makabartar Dan’agundi, Ladanai, Zage, and Tashar Rimi at Rimi Market,” Maigatari stated.

He added that a further 15 suspects were apprehended during raids at Kano Line Motor Park and Tashar Rami Motor Park in Na’ibawa, bringing the total number of arrests to 49.

Items Recovered from Suspects

During the raids, NDLEA operatives recovered a range of illicit substances and dangerous weapons including:

Cannabis Sativa
Pregabalin
Diazepam
Codeine syrup
Rohypnol
Suck and Die (a toxic inhalant)
Rubber solution
Locally made weapons

These seizures highlight the diversity of drugs circulating within the state and the danger they pose to public health and safety.

NDLEA’s Intensified Crackdown in Kano

Speaking on the significance of the operation, the NDLEA Commander in Kano, Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, emphasised that the raids are part of the agency’s broader strategy to dismantle drug supply chains and disrupt the operations of dealers.

“Since the elevation of NDLEA’s operations to a strategic command level, we have seen remarkable improvements in the effectiveness and reach of our work,” Idris-Ahmad explained.

He credited NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (Retd.) for his unwavering commitment to a drug-free society.

“Buba Marwa’s dedication and support empower our team to pursue our mission with renewed vigour and determination,” he added.

A Warning to Drug Dealers and Traffickers

Idris-Ahmad issued a stern warning to individuals involved in the illicit drug trade, urging them to abandon such activities immediately.

“The NDLEA will not relent in its efforts to make Nigeria a drug-free nation. We remain committed to safeguarding the public from the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking,” he warned.

The Commander confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that all suspects will face prosecution upon the completion of the legal process.

The Kano raid is part of a broader nationwide crackdown aimed at reducing drug abuse, which has been a persistent challenge in Nigeria.
