The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has recorded another major success in its fight against terrorism, killing over 400 armed bandits during a coordinated military operation in Makakkari Forest, Zamfara State.

The operation, conducted under Operation Fasan Yamma, combined precision airstrikes with ground assaults to dismantle a planned large-scale attack on a farming community.

Intelligence-Led Counter-Terrorism Strike

According to Air Vice Marshal Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, the mission was executed on Sunday, 10 August 2025, after Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) confirmed the movement of over 400 armed bandits preparing to invade.

“The synergy between our air and land components made the operation exceptional. Several notorious bandit kingpins and scores of their fighters were neutralised,” Ejodame stated.

The ISR data revealed that the militants were converging in the dense Makakkari Forest, which has been a notorious hideout for criminal gangs in Zamfara.

Tactical Airstrikes and Ground Support

The NAF deployed precision-guided munitions, targeting the exact positions of the armed bandits. Simultaneously, ground troops moved in to seal off escape routes, ensuring the complete neutralisation of hostile forces.

Military sources disclosed that dozens of motorcycles, weapons, and supplies used by the bandits were also destroyed during the raid.

Boosting Security in the North-West

This latest victory underscores the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to eliminating banditry and restoring peace in the North-West. It follows a series of similar successful missions in Kaduna, Katsina, and Sokoto States, where NAF counter-terrorism operations have disrupted several armed groups.

Security experts believe that maintaining such intelligence-led joint operations will be key to reducing attacks on rural communities and allowing displaced residents to return home.
