The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a major relief for kidney patients by approving N12,000 as the new cost of dialysis under the Kidney Dialysis Subsidy Scheme. This move slashes the previous rate of N50,000 per session, making life-saving treatment more accessible to low-income patients.
According to Mr. Alaba Balogun, Deputy Director and Head of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the scheme has already commenced implementation in selected health institutions nationwide.

The subsidy is currently being piloted in 11 federal tertiary hospitals across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones, with plans for gradual expansion. Patients in these hospitals can now access affordable dialysis treatment:

- Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital
- University of Jos Teaching Hospital
