In a decisive move to combat terrorism in Nigeria’s northwest, the Air Component of the Joint Task Force Operation Fasin Yamma (OPFY) has confirmed the elimination of over 30 terrorists during a precision airstrike on August 4, 2025, in Zamfara State.
According to an official statement released on Thursday, August 7, by Captain David Adewusi, the Media Information Officer of OPFY, the airstrike targeted a large terrorist gathering during a wedding ceremony at the foot of Asola Hills, located in Yankuzo Ward, Tsafe Local Government Area.
“The airstrike was conducted following credible intelligence reports indicating the presence of terrorist elements from Faskari and Kankara axes in Katsina State, as well as several cells operating within Zamfara,” Adewusi stated.
Targeted Operation Based on Intelligence
The military operation, which involved both aerial and ground components, was executed as part of OPFY's broader mission to dismantle terrorist camps and restore peace to conflict-prone regions in the North West.

Follow-Up Ground Assault by 1 Brigade Troops
On August 5, troops from the 1 Brigade under Sector 2 of OPFY launched a ground offensive to intercept retreating terrorists who fled the initial air assault.
The soldiers repelled an ambush while en route to Yankuzo Village, where several of the wounded militants were reportedly receiving treatment.
“At least four suspected terrorist collaborators from Kunchin Kalgo Village were critically injured during the sweep,” local intelligence sources revealed.

The military described the success of this joint operation as a major win in the fight against insurgency and terrorist networks in the region. The operation has brought immediate relief to residents in:
