In Nigeria, linking your National Identification Number (NIN) to your MTN line is mandatory by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). Failure to do so may result in SIM deactivation.
This guide walks you through how to register, link, or update your NIN with MTN Nigeria.
What is NIN?
The NIN (National Identification Number) is an 11-digit number issued by NIMC (National Identity Management Commission). It is used to uniquely identify every Nigerian citizen or resident.
How to Link NIN to MTN Line
1. Using USSD Code
- Dial
*785#
- Enter your 11-digit NIN
- Submit and wait for a confirmation message
OR
Dial:
*785*NIN#
(Example: 78512345678901#)
2. Via SMS
- Text your NIN to 785
(Format: 12345678901)
3. Using the MTN NIN Portal (Online)
Visit: https://nin.mtn.ng
Steps:
- Enter your MTN phone number
- Input your NIN
- Submit the form
- Receive confirmation via SMS
4. Using the MyMTN App
- Download and open the MyMTN App
- Navigate to NIN Services
- Enter and link your NIN
How to Enroll for NIN (If You Don’t Have One)
You can register for NIN at:
- Any NIMC Office
- MTN NIN Enrollment Centers

- Visit the nearest MTN service center with your NIN slip and valid ID for correction.
