Katsina Has Lost Its Most Illustrious Son — Governor Radda Mourns Buhari

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing the late statesman as a father figure, a national patriot, and the pride of Katsina.

In a statement released on Sunday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed, Radda noted that Buhari died in London at approximately 4:30 p.m. following a prolonged illness.

“Today, Nigeria has lost a patriot, Katsina has lost its most illustrious son, and I have lost a father figure whose footsteps I have endeavoured to follow,” the statement read.

Governor Radda highlighted Buhari’s distinguished service to the nation—first as military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985, and later as a democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023—saying he represented the finest values of Katsina: integrity, public service, and dedication to the common man.

“President Buhari was not just a leader; he was the embodiment of the aspirations of the ordinary Nigerian. His people-centered programs and his sincere love for the masses defined his leadership philosophy,” Radda said.

He further emphasized that Buhari’s impact transcended political boundaries, describing him as a leader who remained steadfast in championing the cause of everyday Nigerians throughout his life.

“From his early military career to his transformative tenure as president, Buhari never lost touch with his roots. He remained deeply connected to the soil of Katsina and to the hearts of its people.”

Governor Radda said Buhari’s death leaves an irreplaceable void in the nation's collective consciousness but noted that his legacy will live on.

“As the nation mourns this monumental loss, we must also celebrate a life committed to service and to humanity. His legacy of prioritizing the needs of the people will continue to guide and inspire generations of Nigerian leaders.”

The governor extended his heartfelt condolences to the late president’s family, the people of Katsina State, and the entire nation, urging all Nigerians to reflect on Buhari’s lifelong dedication to public service and national unity.
