Want to switch to Airtel Nigeria but keep your current phone number? Thanks to Mobile Number Portability (MNP), you can easily port from MTN, Glo, or 9mobile to Airtel in 2025 without changing your existing number.

What Is Mobile Number Portability (MNP)?
Mobile Number Portability allows you to change your mobile network provider (e.g., MTN or Glo) to Airtel without losing your original phone number.
For example:
If your number is 0803 123 4567 (an MTN number), once ported to Airtel, your number stays the same, but your network becomes Airtel.
Requirements to Port to Airtel
To port successfully in 2025, make sure you have:
- Your active mobile number (must be registered)
- A valid means of identification (NIN Slip or National ID)
- An unblocked SIM card
- Your current SIM inside a phone (for OTP verification)
You must have used the number for at least 60 days on the current network before porting.
How to Port from MTN or Glo to Airtel (2025 Process)
There are two ways to port to Airtel:
Method 1: Visit an Airtel Store
- Walk into any Airtel Experience Centre
- Request for MNP – Port into Airtel
- Provide your current number and ID
- Fill the porting form
- An Airtel SIM will be given to you (linked to your old number)
- Confirm OTP sent to your old SIM
- Your number will be ported within 24 hours
Once the process is complete, your MTN or Glo SIM will stop working, and the new Airtel SIM will take over with the same number.
Method 2: Use Airtel Porting Code (for Inquiry)
You can also dial the Airtel shortcode:

You'll receive a reply with instructions or be directed to the nearest Airtel center for biometric and SIM swap processing.
Important Notes
- You cannot port online – porting must be done at a physical Airtel outlet
- No airtime/data is transferred during porting – make sure to use any remaining balance before porting
- Once ported, you’ll enjoy Airtel’s data bundles, call rates, and offers on your current number
Can You Port Back to Your Old Network?
Yes! But only after 90 days of using the new network.
So, if you port from MTN to Airtel today, you must wait at least 3 months before porting back to MTN.
