Former President Muhammadu Buhari to Be Laid to Rest July 15 in Daura |
The funeral of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State. Burial rites are set to commence at 2:00 p.m., following the arrival of his remains at 12:00 noon.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda confirmed the arrangements during a press briefing on Monday in Katsina, stating that the schedule was finalized after extensive consultations with the late President’s family and close associates in London.
President Buhari passed away on Sunday, July 13, at a hospital in London, following a prolonged illness. His death has sparked a nationwide outpouring of grief, drawing condolences from leaders and citizens across political, religious, and ethnic lines.
Governor Radda, visibly emotional, described Buhari as “a national icon whose legacy will remain firmly embedded in Nigeria’s history.”
“We pray Almighty Allah grants his soul eternal rest and rewards him with Aljannatul Firdaus,” Radda stated.
“On behalf of the government and people of Katsina State, we offer our heartfelt condolences to the Buhari family, to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and to the entire nation. May Allah grant us all the fortitude to bear this immense loss.”
The governor added that the Katsina State Government, in partnership with federal authorities and the Buhari family, is working to ensure a dignified and befitting farewell for the late leader.
President Muhammadu Buhari first served as Nigeria’s military ruler from 1983 to 1985, and later returned as a democratically elected President in 2015, serving two consecutive terms until 2023. Known for his austere lifestyle, disciplined leadership, and staunch anti-corruption agenda, Buhari remained a dominant figure in Nigerian politics for over four decades.
His final rites are expected to draw top government officials, foreign diplomats, political leaders, and dignitaries from across Nigeria and the international community.
