Three Killed as Gunmen Raid Two Villages in Patigi LGA |
The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed two deadly attacks that claimed the lives of three people in Patigi Local Government Area during the early hours of Tuesday, June 25, 2025.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi revealed that the coordinated assaults took place around 1:30 a.m. in Mari and Lile villages, both under the Lade district in Patigi.
The victims have been identified as 35-year-old Timothy Paul from Mari village, and 51-year-old Alhaji Abdullahi Shehu, along with his 22-year-old son, Abdullahi Muhammad, both residents of Lile village.
Medical staff at a nearby hospital later confirmed that all three victims were dead on arrival.
Describing the incident as “dastardly,” the police spokesperson said that a full-scale investigation is now underway to track down and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Earlier reports from SaharaReporters indicated that gunmen—suspected to be bandits—had targeted the residence of businessman and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward leader, Alhaji Abdullahi Kpotun, in Lile village. The attackers fatally shot both Kpotun and his son during what appeared to be a botched kidnapping attempt.
A local source who spoke with SaharaReporters on Wednesday said the armed men stormed the household late Tuesday night, leaving devastation in their wake.
“They didn’t just attack his family,” the source added. “The bandits also invaded another home in the area and killed someone there as well.”
