Stakeholders Promote Clean Cooking for Health and Environmental Benefits

At the recent NaijaCookWise campaign event in Abuja, stakeholders emphasized the importance of clean cooking methods to improve public health and protect the environment.

Organized by SustyVibes, the event brought together a wide range of participants, including government officials, NGOs, manufacturers, community leaders, innovators, and youth advocates, all focused on advancing safer and more accessible cooking alternatives across Nigeria.

Sonia Ugwunna, Chief of Staff at SustyVibes, described the dialogue as a key step in the campaign’s mission to raise awareness and promote cleaner fuel use. “This initiative reflects our dedication to evidence-based advocacy, inclusive dialogue, and behavior-focused strategies. Achieving real change means addressing the core issues behind traditional cooking methods. This event highlighted the importance of collaboration and strategic planning to make clean cooking a reality for everyone,” she said.

During the forum, participants identified economic empowerment as essential to accelerating the shift to clean energy. They emphasized the need to focus on marginalized communities, especially in the campaign’s pilot states, to ensure broad access and equity.

Education was also spotlighted as a tool to close the knowledge gap surrounding clean energy. Stakeholders agreed that ongoing awareness efforts, particularly among the youth, are key to long-term adoption.

The campaign aims to shift behaviors from traditional cooking fuels like firewood and charcoal to cleaner, healthier alternatives, thereby reducing both health hazards and environmental harm.

NaijaCookWise plans to compile the key outcomes of the discussion into a communiqué, which will guide future steps and inform relevant stakeholders.
