Southern Kaduna Youths Reject Recall Bid, Declare Support for Senator Katung

The Youth Wing of the Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU) has disassociated itself from a group agitating for the recall of Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, affirming its full support for the senator’s leadership and developmental strides.

In a statement jointly signed by Comrade Solomon Simon (National Coordinator), Comrade Aruwa Alhassan (Secretary General), and Comrade Isah Emmanuel Anjadick (National PRO), the youth wing strongly condemned the recall campaign launched by a group operating under the name Southern Kaduna Progressives Youth Network, describing it as divisive, ill-motivated, and unrepresentative of the region’s youth.

The group, on June 16, 2025, had held a press conference announcing its intention to commence a recall process against Senator Katung and petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for an investigation into his activities.

But SOKAPU’s Youth Wing dismissed the move as a politically charged smear campaign.

“As the apex youth body in Southern Kaduna, we categorically denounce the baseless allegations and antics of this so-called group. Their actions neither reflect the values nor the collective aspirations of Southern Kaduna youth,” the statement read.

The group commended Senator Katung’s performance in the Senate, describing his two years in office as marked by visionary leadership, legislative impact, and tangible grassroots development. They warned against the growing trend of “Pull Him Down” (PHD) politics, which they said undermines genuine progress and unity.

“Senator Katung deserves constructive dialogue and respect, not unwarranted attacks motivated by personal or partisan interests,” the youth leaders stated.

Achievements Cited

Highlighting Senator Katung’s record, the youth wing listed several key initiatives, including:

Sponsorship of a motion for compensation of diphtheria victims (2023)

Advocacy for a ₦1.6 billion bailout for ginger farmers (2024)

Legislative efforts to establish:

Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia

Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan

Technology Incubation Centre in Southern Kaduna

They also noted community-level interventions facilitated by the senator, such as:

Provision of over 30 boreholes

Scholarships for indigent students

Renovation of rural hospitals

Construction of science laboratories

“These interventions underscore his commitment to the socio-economic upliftment of our people,” the statement added.

Call for Unity and Political Maturity

The youth wing cautioned against the misuse of youth platforms for divisive political agendas, stressing the importance of unity, dignity, and a shared developmental focus.

“We urge all youths to reject attempts to be used as tools of destabilization. Let us build bridges, not burn them. Let us unite to build a better Southern Kaduna.”

They reaffirmed their readiness to support any elected leader from the region—regardless of political affiliation—who demonstrates commitment to peace, youth inclusion, and community development.
