Nigeria Extends Condolences to India Over Deadly Air India Crash

The Nigerian government has expressed deep sympathy to the people and government of India following the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171 in Ahmedabad, which claimed the lives of over 260 people on Thursday.
In a statement issued by Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria described the incident as a heartbreaking tragedy and conveyed its solidarity with India during what it called a time of national mourning.
“The Federal Republic of Nigeria expresses profound sorrow and extends heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of India over the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171,” the statement read.
While early reports suggest that no Nigerian nationals were among the passengers, the Ministry said the Nigerian High Commission in New Delhi is actively liaising with Indian authorities to verify the information and stands ready to provide consular assistance if needed.
Nigeria also reiterated its commitment to improving aviation safety worldwide, calling for a comprehensive investigation into the crash to help prevent future air disasters.
“As we mourn this loss, we reaffirm our support for efforts to enhance global aviation safety,” the statement added. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and everyone affected by this heartbreaking event.”
The crash has sparked an outpouring of international condolences, as leaders and citizens around the world share in India’s grief and call for accountability in the aftermath of the disaster.
