Kwankwaso Mourns Kano Contingent Killed in Tragic Road Accident |
A devastating accident in Dakatsalle, about 50km from Kano, has claimed the lives of several members of the Kano State sports team, including athletes, officials, medical staff, administrators, and a journalist. The group was returning from the National Sports Festival held in Abeokuta.
Former presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy in a statement released on Sunday. He described the loss of 22 team members as a major blow to the families affected, the people of Kano, and the nation as a whole.
“I am heartbroken by the death of 22 members of the Kano State contingent,” Kwankwaso said. “Their passing is a significant loss to their families, to Kano, and to Nigeria.”
He offered his condolences to the families, the Kano State Government, and Nigeria’s sports community, praying for the souls of the deceased and speedy recovery for those who sustained injuries.
“May their souls rest in peace, and may the injured recover swiftly,” he added.
The tragedy has triggered national mourning, along with renewed calls for better safety measures for athletes and officials traveling long distances for sporting events.
