Katsina Philanthropist Donates N80m for Free Urology Surgeries

A prominent philanthropist in Katsina State, Alhaji Dahiru Mangal, has donated over N80 million to fund urology surgeries and treatments for 3,000 vulnerable individuals across the state.

Mr. Husaaini Kabir, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Mangal Foundation, revealed this to journalists on Saturday during the launch of the foundation’s quarterly outreach programme in Katsina.

Kabir noted that since the inception of the initiative, no fewer than 3,000 underprivileged patients have benefited from around 10 previous medical outreach exercises held in the state.

He further disclosed that over N20 million has been set aside for the second quarter of this year to sponsor urology surgeries for more than 100 patients.

“For those who do not require surgery, medical examinations will be conducted, and they will receive free medication,” he added.

Kabir emphasized that this humanitarian gesture is part of the foundation’s corporate social responsibility, aimed at giving back to the community and supporting the less privileged.

According to him, beneficiaries include people from various villages across Katsina State, neighbouring states, and even from Niger Republic.

“Our primary goal is to ease the financial burden of healthcare for the most vulnerable, many of whom struggle to afford basic needs,” he said.

Kabir also mentioned that screening for the outreach is currently underway at the Amadi Rimi Orthopaedic Hospital in Batagarawa Local Government Area of the state.

“The foundation has enlisted a top-tier medical team and acquired high-quality drugs and equipment to ensure the success of the surgeries,” he said.

He reiterated that the foundation, established in 2016, is dedicated to empowerment, development, education, charity, and providing healthcare and economic support to the poor and vulnerable.

Kabir also highlighted that the foundation has previously sponsored thousands of eye, hernia, and hydrocele surgeries for those in need.

One of the beneficiaries, Mallam Adamu Aliyu, a staff member of the State Polytechnic, expressed his gratitude:

“I’ve been searching for an opportunity like this. My modest salary can’t cover the cost of the surgery. I pray Almighty Allah rewards the sponsor.”

Other beneficiaries echoed similar sentiments, praising the initiative and calling on the government, private sector, and wealthy individuals to follow Alhaji Dahiru Mangal’s example in promoting healthier living.
