Kano Court Sentences TikToker to One Year in Prison Over Cross-Dressing Video |
A magistrate court in Kano State has sentenced popular TikTok content creator Kilina to one year in prison for promoting cross-dressing and indecent content on social media.
The court, however, gave the option of a ₦100,000 fine in lieu of imprisonment, and ordered Kilina to pay an additional ₦30,000 compensation to the Kano State Film and Video Censorship Board for what it described as “wasting the board’s time.”
According to a radio programme monitored by Daily Trust, Kilina was found guilty of producing and sharing videos that promote indecent behavior, including cross-dressing, vulgar language, and content deemed offensive to public morality.
The sentencing followed a formal complaint filed by the Kano State Film and Video Censorship Board, which has intensified efforts to regulate social media content in the state.
In delivering the verdict, the presiding magistrate issued a stern warning to the content creator, cautioning that any repeat offence would attract harsher penalties, including the maximum sentence without an option of fine.
“This court will not hesitate to impose the full weight of the law if you continue to violate public decency,” the magistrate warned.
Kilina’s conviction is the latest in a growing list of cases pursued by the censorship board as part of its campaign to enforce moral standards and social media regulation in Kano State.
