Victor Osimhen, the 2023 African Player of the Year, has shared a memorable story about waiting an hour just to snap a selfie with Cristiano Ronaldo. The Nigerian forward also revealed what the Portuguese legend told him during their brief but unforgettable encounter.

The 26-year-old Super Eagles star made no secret of his admiration for football icons like Ronaldo, Messi, and Neymar, saying he’s always tried to create lasting memories with these legends while playing on the same global stage.

In an interview with Daddy Freeze, Osimhen recalled, “I used to tell my friends, the day I get to play against Ronaldo, Messi, or Neymar – these are legends I love deeply – I’ll make sure to take a picture with them. I don’t care even if we lose 10-0!”

That opportunity came in 2021 during a match against Juventus. After the game, Osimhen approached Ronaldo and made his move.

“I told him, ‘Cris, I’d love to take a picture with you.’ He said, ‘Yeah, come to the dressing room,’” Osimhen recounted.

But what followed was an unexpectedly long wait that left him feeling like a starstruck fan hoping for a moment with his idol.

“(Gianluigi) Buffon saw me and asked what I was doing. When I told him, he went to check and came back saying Ronaldo was still working out in the gym. He told me to sit with him. We talked for nearly 30 minutes, and Ronaldo still hadn’t come out. I waited a full hour – he was still working out,” Osimhen said.

When Ronaldo finally appeared, Osimhen was blown away by the superstar’s incredible physical shape, especially considering his age.

“Just look at his legs, the veins – you’d think he was 25,” he said in awe.

Their meeting ended with Ronaldo offering words of encouragement that left a strong impression.

“He said, ‘Great game, just keep going,’ and we shook hands. Honestly, no one’s surprised by what Ronaldo is still doing today. He’s an amazing personality,” Osimhen added.

Now 40, Ronaldo continues to defy age, recently captaining Portugal to UEFA Nations League victory. He’s also expected to extend his stay with Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr.

As for Osimhen, his future remains a hot topic. The striker recently turned down a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, as he holds out for a move to a top European club.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes Osimhen is waiting for a call from Old Trafford, with fresh reports suggesting Al-Hilal are preparing a jaw-dropping offer worth €50 million per year.

Meanwhile, Osimhen is coming off an outstanding loan spell with Turkish giants Galatasaray, where he scored 37 goals and registered 7 assists in 39 matches across all competitions.

His sensational bicycle kick against Antalyaspor was voted the Super Lig Goal of the Season, claiming 65.8% of the fan vote. He also played a key role in helping Okan Buruk’s team secure a domestic double, winning both the Turkish Super Lig title and the Turkish Cup.
