Anambra: 2 Dead, 2 Abducted, Others Injured in Cult Clash Near Federal Poly Oko |
At least two people have been confirmed dead and two others abducted following a violent clash between suspected rival cult groups in Oko, a town housing the Federal Polytechnic in Orumba North LGA of Anambra State.
The incident occurred around 8:40 pm on Wednesday, June 19, 2025, at the Total Junction and Tipper Junction areas of the town. Eyewitnesses say the attackers, armed and operating on a motorcycle and a black Lexus 350 SUV without a number plate, began shooting indiscriminately.
Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, noting that police operatives, alongside the Joint Security Task Force comprising the Army, Navy, Civil Defence, and Vigilantes, have taken control of the area.
Two persons were rescued, including a female victim currently receiving medical treatment. Four others sustained injuries, while two individuals were reportedly abducted at Tipper Junction.
The police have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects and are acting on credible leads gathered from eyewitnesses. Residents have been urged to remain calm as investigations continue.
