Tragedy in Katsina: Woman Arrested for Fatally Stabbing Co-Wife During Dispute |
A domestic disagreement turned deadly in Daura, Katsina State, as police confirmed the arrest of a 23-year-old woman accused of stabbing her co-wife to death during a violent altercation.
The Katsina State Police Command, in a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, said the suspect, Rabi’a Labaran, was taken into custody following the fatal incident that occurred on the night of May 24, 2025.
According to the statement, the husband, Nasir Yusuf, alerted authorities after he returned to their home near Dadi Primary School in the Sabon Gari area of Daura and found his first wife, 30-year-old Zainab Lawal, lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds.
Police operatives from the Sabon Gari Division responded immediately and rushed the victim to the Federal Medical Centre, Daura. Sadly, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
During preliminary investigations, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime, stating that a heated argument between her and the deceased escalated into a physical fight, which ended in the tragic stabbing.
The case remains under active investigation.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, condemned the act and called on the public to avoid domestic violence and seek lawful avenues to resolve disputes. He stressed that taking the law into one's hands only breeds further tragedy and undermines peace in the community.
