Tinubu Pledges Stronger Protection for Children, Launches Bold Anti-Bullying Agenda

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare and protection of Nigerian children, declaring them the “pride and future of our great nation” during the 2025 Children’s Day celebration.

In a heartfelt address released on Tuesday, President Tinubu stressed the urgent need to tackle bullying, abuse, and neglect across schools and communities. Citing alarming statistics that show up to 65% of Nigerian children have experienced some form of bullying, he described the trend as unacceptable and called for a unified response.

"This year’s theme, ‘Stand Up, Speak Up: Building a Bullying-Free Generation,’ captures the spirit of what we must achieve—a Nigeria where every child feels safe, valued, and heard," the President said.

Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, Tinubu outlined several initiatives to strengthen child protection, including:

Full implementation of the National Plan of Action to End Violence Against Children (2024–2030)
A review of the Child Rights Act and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act to close legal gaps
Strengthening digital safety under the Cybercrime Act
Nationwide rollout of the Child Protection Information Management System (CPIMS)

He also highlighted investments in maternal and child healthcare, school safety policies, and nutrition programs like the Nutrition 774 and school feeding initiatives to support children’s growth and learning.

To further ensure accountability, the President announced the establishment of a Department of Nutrition and a Universal Child Grant initiative. A new “See Something, Say Something, Do Something” campaign was also launched to mobilize public vigilance in child protection.

“Our children deserve more than laws—they deserve action,” Tinubu stated. “Let us build a Nigeria where no child suffers in silence, and every child grows in dignity, love, and opportunity.”

He urged parents, educators, faith leaders, and community members to join in creating a safe and nurturing environment for the next generation.

“Your voices matter. Your dreams matter. Speak up, and we will protect you,” he assured Nigerian children.
