Governor Uba Sani: Kaduna Running Smoothly Without Loans for Two Years

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has revealed that his administration has not taken any loans since he assumed office two years ago. Speaking in a Hausa-language interview with local broadcasters, the governor emphasized his commitment to maintaining fiscal discipline and avoiding additional debt burdens on the state.

He noted that although several banks have approached his government with loan offers, he consistently declined, choosing instead to focus on cost-saving strategies and efficient governance.

“To keep the state financially stable, we had to make some tough decisions,” the governor said. “We reduced certain allowances and benefits for top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government and Commissioners.”

According to him, many of the appointees, who had previously held high-paying roles in federal institutions and international organizations, agreed to work under modest conditions, foregoing bonuses and using official vehicles inherited from the previous administration.

“These sacrifices have allowed us to manage state affairs effectively without relying on loans,” he added.

Governor Sani also highlighted his efforts to attract external funding through grants. He said that his previous work as a human rights advocate and senator helped him build strong relationships with international donors.

One of the notable outcomes of these partnerships, he said, is the collaboration with Qatar Charity, which is currently developing the Kaduna Economic City and a large-scale housing project in the Millennium City area.

He acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that Kaduna, like many other states, has benefited from federal assistance in navigating economic challenges.
