5 Key Points About UniAbuja's Youngest Acting VC
Professor Aisha Maikudi

Professor Aisha Maikudi was declared the acting vice chancellor of the University of Abuja on Thursday, following the university senate's decision.

She assumed the acting role from Professor Abdulrasheed Na’allah, the sixth vice chancellor, whose term concludes on June 30.

Her appointment received senate approval, awaiting the selection of a permanent vice chancellor by the university's governing council.

Previously, Maikudi served as the deputy vice chancellor for academics and is a professor of international law.

Born in Zaria Local Government, Kaduna State, on January 31, 1983, Aisha Maikudi hails from Katsina State.

Maikudi attributes her career path to her upbringing in an academic family where reading was a staple activity.

Her father is a keen reader, while her mother works as a teacher.

Maikudi started prep school at one year old. By age 10, she completed primary school and moved on to Queens College, Yaba, Lagos, for her secondary education, completing the WASSCE in 1999.

At 16, post-WASSCE, she attended Cambridge for her A levels, then earned an LLB from the University of Reading, UK.

She pursued her LLM at the London School of Economics after completing Law School in Abuja and later earned a PhD from the University of Abuja.

Maikudi joined the University of Abuja's faculty in 2008, following a year with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation in Abuja as part of the National Youth Service Scheme.

Her expertise spans international, corporate, and United Nations law.

In 2014, she became the youngest and first female head of the Law Faculty's department.

By 2018, she was the Deputy Dean, continuing her streak as the youngest and first in such positions at the university.

She attained professorship in 2021, keeping her status as UniAbuja's youngest professor and the first female International Law professor in the institution and the North-West region.

In 2023, the governing council appointed her Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic during its 96th meeting, marking another milestone as the only female to hold the position.

Professor Aisha Maikudi is a married mother.
