| Falana Blasts Power Minister over Electricity Tariff Hike |
Falana pointed out that the Electricity Act 2023 requires a public hearing before approving a tariff increase, which was not done. He also accused the government and the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission of impunity and double standards, as Western countries subsidize essential services while advising Nigeria against doing the same.
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has criticized the Federal Government and the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, for the recent electricity tariff increase. Falana argued that the minister failed to address the illegality of the tariffs and that the increase was imposed by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

The senior lawyer insisted that the tariff increase is unjustified and that Nigerian law does not allow discrimination against customers by grading them into different bands. He emphasized that the government cannot ask Nigerians to pay differently for the same product, especially when they are not receiving adequate electricity supply.
