N-POWER Program Suspended by Federal Government

The Minister of Charity and Welfare, Dr Betta Edu, has announced the suspension of the N-POWER program pending an investigation into the alleged irregularities in its implementation. According to Dr Edu, some of the issues under scrutiny include the enrollment of ineligible people, the diversion of large sums of money during the distribution to the beneficiaries, the issuance of fake certificates, and the inclusion of unqualified applicants.

The N-POWER program is a social intervention scheme that aims to provide skills training and employment opportunities to young Nigerians. The program has been running since 2016 and has enrolled over 500,000 participants across various sectors.

Dr Edu said that the suspension was necessary to ensure transparency and accountability in the program and to protect the interests of the genuine beneficiaries. She assured that the investigation would be swift and thorough and that the program would resume as soon as possible with improved measures.
